Saturday
8am – Breakfast in Marine Terrace is where your adventure in Geraldton begins! There’s some great eateries along this strip that will have you salivating. The cafes also serve a great coffee, so you’re spoilt for choice.
9am – After you’ve filled up on a delicious breakfast, head for a walk along the stunning Geraldton Foreshore. Be sure to pack your bathers because it’s a great spot to go for a swim or hire a kayak or jet ski through Ultimate Watersports and take to the water.
10.30am - After a morning out on the water make your way to the HMAS Sydney II Memorial. Geraldton Voluntary Tour Guides also conduct their free daily tours at this time, so you’ll be brimming with knowledge about the site.
12pm – You’ve probably worked up an appetite with all this exploring! Head to Skeetas Restaurant on the beautiful Marina for some tapas. The restaurant overlooks the Geraldton Marina and is a great spot to have a meal and take it easy.
1pm - After lunch take a stroll along the Marina and then pop into the Museum of Geraldton where you will learn more about life in the region, the Batavia Shipwreck and Houtman Abrolhos Islands. The Museum of Geraldton also has a great shop with local products, educational items and souvenirs.
2.30pm - Keep learning about Geraldton’s history by visiting the St Francis Xavier Cathedral. This beautiful building is some of famous architect Monsignor Hawes’ finest work. Guided tours through the Cathedral are available and provide great insights into the building and Hawes’ work in the Midwest.
3.30pm – Time for some shopping! Marine Terrace is packed with boutique shops and is the perfect destination to take a piece of Geraldton home with you. Be sure to check out the street art in this area too – there’s lots of laneways featuring pops of colour and artwork.
5pm – Wind down from your action-packed day by visiting Cutler & Smith. This tapas bar serves up a mean feed and has great atmosphere.
7pm – Grab some gelato from one of the finest restaurants in town, L’italiano. The traditional Italian restaurant is always packed and has a smorgasbord of flavours to choose from.
7.30pm – The Queens Park Theatre is Geraldton’s premier destination for theatre and entertainment. There’s a variety of different shows happening every weekend – from plays, movies, concerts, dance, bands and loads more.
Sunday
8am - This morning you’re up bright and early because you’re headed to the Abrolhos Islands! Hop aboard a flight with either Nationwest Aviation or Shine Aviation.
Be sure to pack your togs and sunscreen – once you see the Abrolhos Islands you won’t be able to stop yourself from jumping in. At the Abrolhos Islands you will be treated to snorkelling, a walking tour explaining the flora and fauna in the area as well as a flight over the famous Batavia Shipwreck and Wiebbe Hayes Fort.
On the way back, you’ll fly over the Instagram-worthy Hutt Lagoon which is a pink lake! It gets its intense colouring from the high amounts of salt. Make sure you have your camera on standby.
3pm – Once you’ve touched down and gone home to freshen up and kick back, head to the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery for a dose of arts and culture. The Gallery always has exciting and thought-provoking exhibitions, so take your time and enjoy some art.
4pm - Make your way to Skeetas Restaurant for a beverage and bite to eat as the day starts slowing down. It’s been an action-packed day, so treat yourself to one or two of their yummy tapas options.
5pm – Take a leisurely stroll along the Geraldton Foreshore and check out the Ilgarijiri Eggs designed by Yamatji artists Margaret Whitehurst and Barbara Merritt.
6pm – We hope you’ve left some room in your stomach for some more food, because your final dinner is fish and chips. If you’re feeling a little extra, take your meal to the Point Moore Lighthouse to eat them as the sun goes down.
