The Catholic Diocese of Geraldton has recently undertaken a major project to restore, conserve and enhance the iconic, heritage listed St Francis Xavier Cathedral and its precinct. In addition to the Cathedral works, the project included the building of the Monsignor Hawes Heritage Centre which houses a Cafe and Museum dedicated to Monsignor John Hawes, and a Midwest Flower Garden which includes a Columbarium. The Cathedral was re-dedicated and reopened in November 2017 and is once again the principal place of worship in the Diocese of Geraldton and has become a major draw card for tourists visiting Geraldton from all over the world.
Tours of the Cathedral and its Crypt are conducted on Sunday, Monday & Wednesday at 2:30 and Friday at 4:00.(or by appointment)
