This month will mark an important moment in history with the 83rd anniversary of the sinking of the HMAS Sydney II.
Hundreds will gather to pay their respects to those who lost their lives during Australia’s greatest naval tragedy.
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune expressed the importance of marking the occasion.
“The battle between the HMAS Sydney II and the HSK Kormoran during World War II is an integral part of the rich tapestry of Geraldton’s history and the memory of those who lost their lives continues to hold a special place in the hearts and minds of many in our community,” he said.
“In keeping with tradition, we will come together with relatives of the fallen as well as serving and retired naval personnel to pay our respects to those who paid the ultimate price in defence of our country.
“I urge everyone to join us at the Memorial to remember this poignant moment from our past.”
